Zion Williamson entered the NBA as one of the most hyped prospects since LeBron James, going first overall to the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft after one season at Duke. In July 2019, he signed a seven-year deal with Jordan Brand reported at $75 million, the biggest shoe deal since Nike signed LeBron in 2003, and designers began working on his signature model shortly afterward.
The Jordan Zion 1 debuted on April 20, 2021, when Williamson wore it in a game against the Nets. Built around his explosive power, it paired a full-length Air Strobel unit stitched to the upper with a forefoot Zoom Air unit on a wide, stable base. It launched in the black-and-white Gen Zion colorway, followed by ZNA, Noah and Marion, a nod to his South Carolina hometown. The 2022 Zion 2 decoupled the strobel, cutting it back to the heel to fit 20 percent more Zoom Air in the forefoot, and added a high-wrapping cup sole and a forefoot strap tied into the lacing. In 2023, the Zion 3 had the lowest stack height of any of his shoes, with a drop-in Formula 23 foam midsole, forefoot Zoom Air and a Mud, Sweat, and Tears colorway telling the story of his rise from Marion. The Zion 4 arrived in 2025 with a full-length Cushlon 3.0 drop-in midsole over a full-length parabolic Air Zoom strobel. Jordan Brand did not renew the signature line after the 2025-26 season, making the Zion 4 its final model.
