Review consensus

No performance reviews of the Adidas Mutombo were found. It was built as a straightforward high-top basketball shoe for a shot-blocking center, without the Torsion or Feet You Wear technology Adidas used on later models.

About the shoe

The Adidas Mutombo is the first signature shoe of Hall of Fame center Dikembe Mutombo, released in 1992 during his second NBA season. It was Adidas’s first signature basketball model since Patrick Ewing left the brand in 1989, and its design team included former Nike designer Peter Moore. The high-top uses an African-inspired print that references Mutombo’s roots in Zaire, along with a tongue shield logo that combines an “M,” his number 55 and crossed spears. Available sources do not give the original retail price, but the 2013 20th-anniversary retro sold for $105.
