About the shoe
The Converse Pro Leather is the shoe most closely tied to Julius “Dr. J” Erving, who wore it in the ABA and NBA and debuted it with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1976-77 season. It moved Converse basketball away from canvas, using a two-piece full-grain leather upper on a cupsole, a first for the brand. It was also Converse’s first leather basketball shoe to carry the Star Chevron logo. Retail prices stayed around $30 through its original production run, which ended around 1984. Retros since then have added modern cushioning such as Lunarlon.
