Review consensus

No modern performance reviews of the 1995 original were found, though Sneaker Freaker calls it one of the best-performing models in Swoopes' line. Gerber designed it to be agile and responsive, with a lower cut for quicker movement and a midfoot strap for stability.

About the shoe

The Nike Air Swoopes is Sheryl Swoopes’ first signature shoe and, released in 1995, the first women’s signature basketball shoe. As the debut model it had no predecessor; Nike designer Marni Gerber built it around Swoopes’ requests for a light shoe with ample ankle support. The design uses a lower ankle cut, a Velcro strap across the midfoot, a heel pull tab made to work with long fingernails, and a stylized “S” logo on the tongue. The release version, in black with a white strap, retailed for $85.
