Review consensus

The Hyperflight's low-profile, lightweight build was made for quick guards, but its performance reputation is mixed: Jason Williams switched out of it during the 2001 playoffs over comfort. Retro wearers report a slightly slick outsole and thin cushioning, plus loose lockdown and heavy creasing in the upper.

About the shoe

The Nike Zoom Hyperflight is a guard shoe designed by Eric Avar and first released in 2001, when it was billed as the lightest basketball shoe ever made. It pairs a glossy synthetic leather upper with an exoskeletal claw structure on both sides and a Phylon midsole housing Zoom Air. Jason Williams wore it during the 2000-01 season, and it returned in March 2026 at a reported $145, its first retail release since a short-lived 2013 retro. Nike and Foot Locker currently list the retro at $170.
