Review consensus

Reviewers found the Starbury One serviceable for its $14.98 price, with grippy herringbone traction and a flexible upper, though Sole Collector called it "an admittedly marginal shoe" best suited to casual pickup games. Cushioning reviews were mixed: Consumer Reports rated the heel's shock absorption very good, while Sole Collector and an Iowa State biomechanics researcher found it thin. Weak lateral support was the main complaint for quick, aggressive players.

About the shoe

The Starbury One was the first signature basketball shoe of Stephon Marbury. Steve & Barry’s made it and sold it only in its own stores. As the debut model it had no predecessor, and it launched in August 2006 at a retail price of $14.98, far below what Nike and Reebok charged for signature shoes. The shoe has a synthetic leather upper with a mesh inner sleeve, an EVA midsole with a foam heel insert, and a herringbone outsole. Marbury wore it on court for the New York Knicks.
