After being drafted 1st overall in 2016 out of LSU, Simmons sought a lucrative shoe deal that exceeded recent benchmarks for top draft picks. By pitting Nike and Adidas against each other in negotiations, Simmons achieved his goal and walked away with a 5-year, $20 million contract with Nike. The deal is considered unique both for its large base salary and bonuses that could push the contract north of $40 million if Simmons were to win a number of awards including first-team All-NBA and MVP.
But as has been now well documented, Simmons career has gone through more downs than ups in recent years, sitting out large stretches of seasons with health and personal issues. Hoping to make a long term comeback with the Nets, Simmons is putting his faith in the new GT Hustle 2 silhouette. We’re hoping he succeeds.
