Review Consensus

A surprisingly good all-around shoe, especially at its very reasonable price. Great cushioning and appealing design are the strong points, while the traction is slightly disappointing.

The D.O.N. Issue #1 is Donovan Mitchell’s first signature shoe with adidas and was released on July 1, 2019 at a relatively affordable price of $100. Mitchell’s comic book-themed signature shoe line is meant to be fun, accessible and visually appealing, while retaining key performance features on the hardwood.

Standing for “Determination Over Negativity,” the low-top D.O.N. looks to borrow Bounce cushioning and design lines from the Pro Bounce and Harden shoes, as well as the comfort collar of the  Marquee Boost. The first colorway, in striking blue and red, takes inspiration from Mitchell’s Spida nickname. The remaining colorways are all superhero-influenced, hewing to the signature line’s comic book theme.

When asked to talk about why this shoe means so much to him, Mitchell responded, “My message with this shoe is that it’s for kids not only your age, but younger than you guys, older than you guys, just [for those who] believe that they can do anything. You don’t have to be the number one recruit, you don’t even have to be a basketball player. I just want this to send a positive message to make kids feel inspired that they can be what they want to be.”
