With a design and performance reminiscent of the popular Kyrie line, the Ja 1 is poised to fill the gap left by Irving's departure from Nike as a reactive guard shoe. The low setup, high court feel, and biting, durable traction are its strongest features, though some players may find its impact protection and compression lacking. The fit is also snug, and some players may need to go up a half-size for comfort.

Dropped in early 2023, the Nike Ja 1 is Grizzlies star Ja Morant’s first signature shoe. In its first months on the market, the Ja 1 received a tremendous amount of buzz, due to its high performance cushioning and traction. However, with Morant’s legal and image troubles piling up over 2023, the shoe has lost some of its luster as well, with relatively fewer players — both in the NBA and among the amateur ranks — opting now to wear it.
