Reviewers praised the grip and the locked-in fit of the Kobe A.D. They criticised its firm cushioning and stiff upper, both of which needed a long break-in. The small forefoot outrigger could also roll under the sole on hard cuts.

About the shoe

The Kobe A.D. was Kobe Bryant’s first Nike signature shoe after he retired, and it followed the Kobe XI. It kept the low-cut profile of the line but switched from the XI’s engineered Flyknit upper to a ballistic-style mesh. Underfoot it uses Lunarlon foam with a heel Zoom Air unit, though the Zoom unit is smaller than the one in the Kobe X and is encased in foam. The shoe debuted in the “Ruthless Precision” Cool Grey colourway at a retail price of $160.
