It had always been a bit of head-scratching decision that Joel Embiid decided to link up with lifestyle brand Skechers. But it turns out that Skechers was serious about churning out performance basketball shoes, so maybe Embiid got the last laugh after all.

His first signature shoe with Skechers, the SKX JE 1, maybe not be the most attractive silhouette you’ve ever seen, but it’s packed with interesting features that will certainly attract the attention of some slice of the basketball-playing public. The low-cut shoe has unusual characteristics like a 3-d printed haptic lockdown cage and a Goodyear-branded outsole for traction.
