Review Consensus

The Vol. 8 was already a well-regarded sneaker, and the Vol. 9 refines and improves on that model. Its dual-zone traction and reactive cushioning make it one of the best shoes in 2025 for guards or any players who make quick direction changes, with elite support and lockdown to match.

Release Date: January 21, 2025

James Harden unveiled the Harden Vol. 9 during a Clippers/Jazz game in December 2024, wearing the distinctive “Cyber Metallic” colorway. It officially released about a month later, with four more colorways following through the spring of 2025, from the similarly shiny “Ice Metallic” to the red-streaked black of “Hell Cat”. The design of the Vol. 9 riffs off of the distinctive silhouette of the Harden Vol. 8, though with a new swoop pattern on the sides that gives it a unique, sleeker look. While purists may turn their nose up at the synthetic upper, it’s designed for performance, making the shoe nicely lightweight without sacrificing durability. Its true-to-size fit accommodates most foot shapes well, with a secure lacing system for a stable on-court ride.
