Nike Zoom Freak

The Greek Freak had already been named the league MVP by the time he released his first signature shoe line with Nike—a dream come true for a sneakerhead who’d shared his brother’s shoes growing up. With the release of the Nike Zoom Freak 1 in 2019, Antetokoumpo also became the first international player to receive a Nike signature sneaker. The design of the Zoom Freak 1 was based off the Kobe line, his shoe of choice during his early career, with a stacked forefoot Zoom Air unit as well as Zoom Air in the heel. It was first released in the “All Bros” colorway, later adding other unique colorways like “Employee of the Month” based on Eddie Murphy’s McDowell’s uniform from Coming to America.

The latest shoe in the line, the Zoom Freak 3, was released in summer of 2021 in the midst of the Greek Freak’s championship run with the Milwaukee Bucks. It features two Zoom Air units in the forefoot for better responsiveness, along with a lockdown strap and a low set-up for tight control. In between these releases was the Nike Zoom Freak 2 in 2020, whose silhouette has been compared to the Nike PG1. It also uses a Zoom Air forefoot, with a lightweight foam heel and decoupled outsole with a supportive shank embedded in the midsole. Its initial colorway, “Naija”, is a tribute to the Nigerian soccer team, with an array of distinctive colorways following in 2020 and 2021.
