Review Consensus

The first shoe in the Zoom Freak line received positive — but not overwhelmingly positive — reviews. This is a shoe you need to test to see if it works for your game.

The Nike Zoom Freak 1, the long-awaited first signature shoe for the Bucks superstar, was released on June 29, 2019. The first colorway to hit the market was an orange “All Bros” colorway, followed by black and white.

At the forefoot, the shoe features four containment bands which are hidden under a mesh upper. The traction pattern follows a relatively unique pattern meant to support Giannis’ aggressive movements and high-speed torque-crunching eurostep.

Design-wise, the four bands represent the four Antetokounmpo brothers, while the outsole pattern hearkens back to the Greek funereal flower tradition. Giannis’ new logo blends together aspects of the player’s Greek and Nigerian identities, as well as his personal rise from Greek street vendor to NBA superstar.

Antetokounmpo will be the 22nd player ever to have a signature shoe designed by Nike. While details of the contract were not publicly released, it is expected he will receive a five percent royalty on all shoes sold in the US and a higher percentage abroad.
