Review consensus

No performance reviews of The Dream could be found. It was built mainly as an affordable signature shoe and meant to counter sneaker-related violence. Retrospective coverage covers its commercial reception, not its on-court performance, and describes weak appeal with young buyers because it was sold in discount stores.

About the shoe

The Dream is Hakeem Olajuwon’s first signature shoe with Spalding, released in 1995 after the Houston Rockets’ back-to-back championship seasons. As the first model in the line it had no predecessor; Olajuwon helped design it and said he wore it on court during the NBA Finals. The high-top followed the black-and-white leather look common in the 1990s and carried his number 34 on the side. Sold through discount chains such as Payless, Wal-Mart and Kmart, it retailed for $34.99 as a deliberate alternative to $120 sneakers from Nike and Reebok.
